GRADUATE SEMINARS
Ulrike Heine is an Associate Professor of Architecture since August 2007 and teaches design studio and technical seminars in our Graduate Program. Her approach on architecture in teaching and research are based on sustainability, environmentally responsive design as a process of integration, which proposes materials and construction as well as natural lighting, energy saving and gaining technologies as creative tools in this process. Student work from her developed, co-taught graduate studio is consistently recognized in the AIA/ACSA COTE Top Ten competition hosted by The American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment (AIA COTE®), in partnership with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), as well as in AIA SC Design Awards and Awards from The Society of American Registered Architects (SARA).
Her research is very much linked to her teaching and focuses on affordable environmental responsive design in a local context. She is a founding member of the Environmental Justice Design Lab in the School of Architecture, which reflects the effects of climate change impacting disproportionately lower-income and marginalized populations. Most of those displaced by flooding, hurricanes, or wildfires in the US are people of color, immigrants, refugees, and, in general, those less favored within contemporary societies. The lab explores new architectures that responds to the environmental challenge, including its social and political dimensions.
Ulrike Heine graduated with Diplom Ingenieur [MS in architecture equivalent] from the Brandenburg Technical University in Cottbus (Germany) in 1999, having also spent a period of her studies at the ETSAB School of Architecture in Barcelona (Spain). She worked for several years as a practicing architect inter alia for the German architectural practice Hascher Jehle Architektur in Berlin. Prior to coming to Clemson, she spent three years teaching Design, Construction and Energy Responsible Planning at the Technical University Berlin (Germany).

This website provides inspiration and knowledge to help architects be informed while traveling.
ArchJourney is your curated destination for excellent examples of Architecture in major cities. We limit our recommendations to 15 projects per city. 5 landmark projects, which we consider famous projects like churches, towers and bridges. 5 classic projects, critically acclaimed from 1900 to the turn of the 21st century. And 5 recent projects that come highly recommended from architects, critics, or professors from those cities

BUILDING FRAMING SYSTEM PATENT
Serial No: 15/367,411 US Patent No. US 10,156,067 B2
A building framing system includes a floor portion or floor framing system, a wall portion or wall framing system, and a roof portion or roof framing system. Each framing system comprises a plurality of components. Each component defines a connection geometry for connecting one component to another. The connection geometries are such that mechanical or other similar fasteneas are not required to hold the various components together; rather, the connection geometries connect the components and hold them in place with respect to one another. Further, the framing systems utilize pre-cut components such that the components of each framing system arrive onsite cut to a needed length and width and with the appropriate connection geometry.
